Mood Filled Maine

Acadia National Park, Maine - October 2024

Stepping out of the airport, the air is light, cool and smells like the purest form of salt. That is, until someone shows up with a cigarette. .. Deep and bright red, yellow, orange and green leaves live along the highway and the weather is a perfect fall. Driving along, there are smooth rolling hills and a dark navy sky with tons of stars .Big and beautiful houses pop up amongst the land that stretch out because they can. There's regal crown moldings on every other exterior. Driving past a road named Cromwell Harbor, I know now where Halloweentown got it. The road cuts through a canopy of color, you almost wish there wasn't a road there to disturb the landscape. Leaves that look like burnt cheese on onion soup and it's oddly satisfying. Rocky shores are scattered across the land and the fall colors driving by slowly pull you in.

Getting into Bar Harbor, we explore the town, Angela finds lobster ice creams that was a bit too cold and a guitarist outside the shop sings a delicious version of Wonderwall. There are little tables and patios outside the front of each house, people here are unafraid of being outside; it's so refreshing. For dinner, we stop at a bougie little spot call The Loft and it was pretty tasty. I scarf up a lobster flatbread (yes, that's a thing!), and one of the best pina colada type drinks I've had. As the night comes to a close, we watch I don't know how many episodes of Fear Factor back at the room.

In the morning, pulling into the park, we walk along the shore and the waves crack like gentle thunder, It feels like you're on the edge of the world. In this case, we're on the edge of our world. The water is clear and salty like New England. Total, we hike 20 miles in two day, and I didn't even feel that tired! I was shocked. It was just so nice to be outside so much that your body wants to keep going. The following day, it's fog city but the colors are still so bright on the way into the park. Trees match the colors of apples, and I know where nature gets it. Bright sunbursts and colors like red grapefruit grow from the branches, Strawberry red, lime and forest greens, golden delicious yellow. We hike down to Echo Lake and pass through what I can only describe as a portal, going from forest, to jungle, to mountains then finally reaching beach. Greg and I sit on a rock and Angela takes awesome photos for us. I learn that leaves are confetti of the forest. All of the houses we see along the way are so unique, they're all different designs, heights, colors and more. This place reminds you that it's ok not to want so much.

Old cars and broken down houses with who knows how much history litter the land. There are huge inns stacked that are double the size of your average Queens home. The three of us hit up a local restaurant for dinner and Angela and I dive into a full on lobster plate with corn, chowder and blueberry pie to finish it off. It was incredible. Continuing to drive, there are horses within gated pastures that are colored like stone and mountain. There are houses everywhere that have turned business, so many neighbors have sunrooms. It's like people do everything possible to be outside. Oh, and we have an awesome bacon egg and cheese at some point.

We have a moody, spooky October drive back, there's dark blue and gray water with a mix of pale colors. Coldplay runs on the radio and it's the best mood music. Rain drizzles on the windshield and windows and it couldn't be more welcome. Turkeys in graveyards, tall rolling mountains painted with trees, clouds brush the tops of the mounds. There are tiny post offices throughout the scattered towns. You find yourself with so many "wows". An amazing time was had by all.

Maine, I will definitely be back. Thank you.
